The Eywa Project
The Eywa Project
CONNECTING CULTURES, NURTURING NATURE:
EYWA'S JOURNEY FROM ITALY TO BURKINA FASO
Eywa is an imaginary divinity, the Great Mother, protector of natural balance, the force that connects all creatures in a living system. This idea inspired us to create a network of authentic connections between people and different cultures, enhancing the skills and knowledge of local communities, learning from those who have always lived in that area how to benefit from natural ingredients, in a sustainable way, to create high quality cosmetics.
From Milan, the Eywa project arrived in Dinderessò, a village in Burkina Faso, where together, with a group of women we set up a soap factory, which has now become an important source of income for the local community. From Burkina Faso, the journey and the search for the perfect ingredient continued to Morocco and Kenya before returning to Sardinia and Campania, in Italy. The active ingredients of our products for face, body and hair, all made in an environmentally sustainable way, come from these territories.
"EYWA IS THE STRENGTH THAT COMES FROM CONNECTIONS, RELATIONSHIPS, ASPIRATIONS AND SACRIFICES"
We are convinced of the importance of the direct relationship with raw material suppliers and the creation of a network of connections rooted in the territory, people and local natural resources, with the aim of producing articles that reflect the characteristics of the place from which they originate. The project guarantees adequate wages paid directly to the women involved with a view to social sustainability.
We partner with Iliana cooperative, which has established a network of small producers to optimize the supply chain and reduce costs and CO2 emissions.
We collaborate with the Kolon Kandya Burkina Faso association, which brings together groups of women who manage soap production, collection, extraction and preservation of butters and essential oils.
We partner with Meru Herbs cooperative, involving over 2,000 Kenyan families in a water project near Mount Kenya. Focus on utilizing all parts of the hibiscus flower for skincare products.
Our precious Argan oil, which we use to enrich the formulation of our Pure Care facial line, comes from the beautiful valleys of the Anti Atlas, thanks to the collaboration with Alban Colon de Franciosi and his fair-trade enterprise, which involves more than 450 women from different villages. Processing takes place on site, in a workshop built according to traditional local architecture.
