Ecocert, Cosmos Organic, IFRA, ICEA.
According to Ecocert the ingredients of cosmetics can be classified in natural or derived from a physical process or chemical (allowed for organic farming) and synthesis. Natural ingredients are always allowed, as long as their use does not damage the ecosystem or the landscape. In addition, natural ingredients processed by chemical and physical processes are also permitted, provided they are granted by Ecocert.
As for the petrochemical ingredients, these are all prohibited. Some synthetic ingredients and preservatives are allowed, provided they are contained in a specific list.
Cosmos is a brand issued by ICEA. The COSMOS disciplinary provides two possible levels of certification “Cosmos Organic” and Cosmos “Natural”. To obtain the Cosmos Organic certification mark at least 20% of the total ingredients must be organic.
The ingredients derived from agriculture physically processed present in the formula, must be organic at least for 95%. Cosmetic products that, although presenting natural raw materials, do not reach high levels of organic formula, can only be certified as natural; in this case the label appears the words “Cosmos Natural”and the percentage content of organic raw materials in formula may be given.
AIAB: promotes the absence of environmentally friendly raw materials in products and packaging.
The International Fragrance Association (IFRA), founded in 1973, is the voice of the perfume industry worldwide. It promotes the safety and performance of fragrance products through dialogue with stakeholders on a global basis. Ecocert regarding the naturalness of the product, the absence of silicone, sles and propylene glycol and packaging, has the characteristics that IFRA, COSMOS with regard to AIAB raw materials with regard to packaging.
